A Faithful Witness
What does it take to be a faithful witness? We can learn a lot from the story of Jesus and the Gadarene demoniac, named Legion, because he was possessed by so many demons.(Mark 5:19,20) Jesus sent him to be a witness to his friends immediately after his conversion, and he was faithful, as well as, successful.
This man, Legion, was truly saved. He was a new creation in Christ. Whereas he was possessed by demons and uncontrollable, once He was delivered and trusted Jesus as His Lord, he was found to be dressed and in his right mind. He was changed by the power of God, and he was a different person. The Holy Spirit changed him and empowered him.
Therefore, all he had to do was to simply tell others what had happened to him when he met Jesus. He did not have to take a 12 week course and memorize 20 verses from the Bible. He was a witness to his personal experience, and he could assure others that what had happened to him could happen to them, too.
When he shared his story, people marveled. They were amazed when they heard the truth about what Jesus had done for this man. Then, they could decide to trust Him, too. Legion succeeded in being a faithful witness, not because of the number who trusted Christ, but because he faithfully shared his story and planted the seed of the gospel, so that the Holy Spirit could cause it to work in the hearts of the people. Then, they could decide to receive Him or not.
All believers are able to be faithful witnesses. Acts 1:8 tells us that we will be witnesses after we are saved and receive the Spirit. However, we could be a good and faithful witness or an unfaithful witness, which really leads people in the wrong way. Are you a faithful witness? You can be. It is up to you.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Mark 6-9.
