Accountability
Did you ever think about Jesus being accountable? Yes, He is the Lord, but when He came to earth, He fully submitted Himself to the Father. His mission in coming to earth was to do His Father's business.(Luke 2:49) Therefore, beginning at the age of 12 Jesus made sure He was accountable to His Heavenly Father, so that He would do His will completely. If Jesus saw Himself being accountable to the Father, we ought to realize the same is true for us.
Each of us are responsible for our own sins, so that we must admit our sins, repent of them, and turn to Christ as our Lord and Savior. That is the beginning of the Christian life. Then, we are accountable to God for how we live each day. He has a plan for each of us that is already laid out.(Ephesians 2:10) It is up to us to know His Word and to seek His face, so that we hear from Him and follow His plan for us. We do not make up what we want to do. We do not just do what is fun in life. We are accountable to our Lord.
I have found that it is important for us to take our accountability seriously. Since it is hard to be objective about ourselves, it is good for us to have people to whom we are accountable, too. They can see our flaws, and show us where we are missing God's will. They can encourage us, too. Then, we are even more likely to be faithful to God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 3-5.
