A Man After God's Own Heart
God is always looking for people with a heart like His. That is one of His fondest thoughts. He searches the earth to find those loyal to Him, so He can bless them. In short, He loves to find one who wants nothing more than to do His will.
God gave Saul the ability and the choice of being a man after His heart. He placed His Spirit on Him. He gave him good instruction through Samuel, and then, He watched to see what Saul would do. He did well for a while, but then, he failed the test. He did his own will when it looked like the people were going to leave him in the face of a huge enemy army. It was just then that Samuel came and delivered the news. God was going to find someone else to lead His people, a man after His own heart.(I Samuel 13:14) I am sure this came as a shock to Saul. He did not expect so quick a fall from God's favor. However, the higher we rise into leadership, the more we must be a good example to the people who are following us.
I pray that we all want to reach that standard and be a person after God's own heart. It is wonderful to live in the sunshine of God's favor.
