Choices
Our lives are shaped by the choices we make. God makes sure that there are consequences for bad choices, because He wants us to flee from sin's destruction. Also, He rewards the right choices we make. Consider Galatians 6:7-8, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life."
All bad choices are basically selfish choices which are guided by the flesh, our human desires and drives. These choices may bring temporary pleasure, but they do not satisfy for the long term. The need for more and more leads to addictions and many strange behaviors. In the end the person is consumed by the desires of the flesh and nothing else really matters.
The right choices are made when we follow the Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads us away from man's ways to the ways of God. It is hard to follow the Spirit at first, because the flesh is fighting Him all the way. However, it is possible to decide to follow the Spirit alone. Then, the war between the Spirit and the flesh is over.(Galatians 5:16,17)
However, one main choice governs the rest of the choices. Until we follow the Spirit's leadership to trust Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives, we are powerless to defeat the flesh. If we make that main choice, He gives us the desire and the ability to do His will from then on, if we continue to submit to Him and to follow the Spirit.(Philippians 2:13) The choice is up to you. Please, make the choice that leads to the abundant life.
