Great Riches
I just finished reading over an article about Tiger Woods. The author was reporting that Tiger had made an ad for a Japanese company and product that is rather obscure. He pointed out that it was probably because he is hurting for money. His sponsors have dropped him, and even Nike has cut their payments to him in half. His taxes on his properties are several million dollars a year, and his divorce cost him 100 million dollars. What a fall from a few years ago.
This article caught my eye because of my verse for today. Proverbs 13:7 says, "There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing, and one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches." Tiger is a great example of the first part of this verse. He has nothing of eternal value at this point. As far as I know, he continues to refuse to repent of his sin and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. He has lost his wife and children. He has lost the respect of people. He has even lost his ability to play golf as he did before. Yes, if he sold his property, he would still have a lot of money, but he would still have nothing.
On the other hand, there are many who give away their money to the needy, or they simply do not make a lot of money, yet they have great riches. They are rich spiritually in their relationship with the Lord Jesus. They are rich in their family blessings. They have a loving, committed spouse, and they have children and grandchildren to love and to nurture. Their lives are filled with friends who stand by them, as well. These are the greatest riches a man or woman can have.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 17-20.
