Who Is God?

What would you tell someone to explain who God is? It is a very good question. Some people don't think God can be known. Others don't believe God even exists. However, most people realize there is an All-Powerful God who created the universe. They may not know who He is, though.

We can know God because He wants to be known. He reveals Himself to all people. Some people accept His revelation of Himself and some don't. He shows Himself in His creation, and He shows Himself by punishing evil.(Romans 1:18-32) He reveals enough to us, so that we can respond in faith. Why faith? Faith is the only response to an All-Powerful God. First, He wants us to acknowledge we believe He is there and that He is in control.

Once we do that, He sends us more revelation of Himself through the Bible, and ultimately through Jesus Christ. God inspired the Bible to lead us into a faith relationship with Him. He sent Jesus to show Himself to us. Therefore, the most specific answer we can give to the question, "Who is God?" is this: God is the Most Powerful Being in the universe, and He eternally exists as One God in Three Persons, The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is one personal being, but He is so awesome and vast that we can't understand God apart from His revelation of Himself as Father, Son, and Spirit.

Would you expect the All-Powerful Creator of the universe to be easy to comprehend in His totality? I wouldn't myself. There are plenty of things in the world that I can't fully understand, much less God. However, we can and do come to know God, because He is love, and He lovingly stoops to our level, so we can have a relationship with Him through His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Once we trust Christ as Lord, our sins are forgiven, and we can know God. In fact, the Spirit of God comes to live in us. What a magnificent truth. We need to be busy about telling everyone who God is.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 102-104.
