The Discipline of the Lord

Most people don't like discipline. They think of it as punishment. However, when it comes from the Lord it is a very good thing. For starters it shows us we belong to Him. He only disciplines His children, not others. (Hebrews 12:5-11) Then, His discipline shows us where we need to go and what we need to do. It is for our own good. Therefore, we need to listen when God speaks to us about correction or discipline.

Consider Jonah. How did it work for him to run away from the Lord? Of course, he could not escape. Then, even when he was obedient, he still did not change his attitude. God had to bring more discipline. However, he knew just where he stood with the Lord, and he knew his attitude was wrong. The next step was up to him. Was he going to repent or get more discipline?

The same is true for us. Are you running from God? Is He correcting you? Are you listening or not? Are you deciding to try it your way? Remember, it won't work if you are one of His children. He will make sure you see it His way. He will not force you to obey, but He is relentless. You will not outlast Him. Just give in and do it His way. You will be glad you did.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 32-34.
