Following God's Will
I have many people tell me that they want to follow God's will or that they are looking for God's will. The problem I encounter in speaking with them is that they do not know how to hear from God to know His will. They think He is just going to "open doors" for them. The open door method does not work very well, because Satan opens doors, too.
I totally agree with Henry Blackaby in his book Experiencing God when he says that "God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways." Therefore, if a person is wanting to follow the Lord's will, he or she should be: asking the Holy Spirit to control their lives on a daily basis, consistently reading the Bible, praying without ceasing, watching for circumstances that line up with what God is saying in other ways, and speaking to other believers for their help.
If someone is not doing these things faithfully, they do not really want God's will, and they will not find it. However, if someone will do these things without trying to get their own way, they will find out just what God has for them, and they will find it is much better than they would have done for themselves.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 21-24.
