Doing Nothing Is Not An Option
Let's say you were walking past a lake. Suddenly, you heard someone gasping for air. You look out over the water, and you see ripples in the water where a person just went under. You look around for help, but you are the only one in the area. What would you do? I know there are several factors to consider, such as how well you can swim, but clearly some action must be taken to save this life. Doing nothing is not an option.
As we sit here tonight, we are in a similar position spiritually. Millions and even billions of people are drowning in sin. Those of us who are on the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ, can see them all around us. It is up to us to take action to see them saved. Doing nothing is not an option.
My associate pastor, Steve Smith, was attending his graduation from seminary recently when the president of the seminary said that as many as 90% of the churches in the USA are plateaued or declining. We have thousands of people around each church who are perishing as we sit here. Doing nothing is not an option.
What does Jesus want us to do? We need to figure it out quickly and do it faithfully, or else the prospects for the survival of those around us are very dim.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 46-48.
