A Change of Heart

This year the Lord has led me to preach messages on the heart. Spiritually speaking, the heart is our inner person. It could be described as a combination of the spirit and the will of a person. We make decisions more with our hearts than with our brains, and we stay close to the Lord only if our hearts are tuned in to Him. Therefore, it is so important that we put an emphasis on the well-being of our hearts, and if we find them deficient that we have a change of heart.

I am sure we have all heard of people having "hard hearts." A person with a hard heart is not open to change. They are not willing to obey God. That is why the Lord calls on hard hearted people to repent so He can give them a soft heart of flesh. We have all heard of people with "cold hearts." It means they lack compassion for others. They do not exhibit love for their family and friends. They need a change of heart. They need a warm or a hot heart that is fervent in love and concern for others. Finally, we hear of people who have "depraved hearts." These people are so soiled by sin that their hearts are almost inoperable. They are practically dead spiritually. They need a change of heart. They need a clean heart. (Psalm 51:10) The Lord is the only one who can wash a heart clean, and the only thing that can be used is the blood of the Lamb. Jesus came to give His life, so we can all have clean, warm, and soft hearts. Then, and only then, can we be right with God and other people the way the Lord wants us to be. After we come to know Him, we need to make sure we continue to have a clean heart by confessing our sins, so they can be cleansed. (I John 1:9) That keeps our hearts right with the Lord all the way to heaven.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 52-55.
