Faithfulness is Consistency
This evening as we went through the Mind of Christ on the characteristics of a servant, we talked about faithfulness. The key is continuing in our faithfulness. It is not being faithful in spurts or for short periods of time. It is doing what God has told us to do in a faithful way consistently. Many Christians fail to reach that point in their lives, though.
Somehow, we tend to think that what we need to do is to trust Christ to forgive our sins, or to trust that Jesus died on the Cross for our sins. Yes, we need to do those things, but that is only a fraction of faith and being faithful. We trust Jesus as Lord, and then, we are faithful to obey Him consistently. That is putting our faith in Him.
Also, it is faithfulness that comes from the heart, not just obligation. Jesus does not look for what we do grudgingly. He looks for what we do out of love for Him. If we truly love Him, we will love Him consistently, and so we will obey Him consistently. It is a lifestyle of faith in Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 20-22.
