Legion's Testimony

This morning at 5 AM we resumed our study of Luke 8 with 13 men. We began our discussion of the story of Jesus and the Gadarene demoniac, who is better known as "Legion." We are using the story to learn about demon possession, so we will continue studying this passage again next Monday.

One of the things that is amazing to see in this passage is the testimony of Legion in Luke 8:28. As soon as the demons saw Jesus, they knew who He was, and they said with a loud voice, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?" The demons knew exactly who Jesus was, and they gave Him great respect. They knew Him as the Son of the Most High God. Isn't that amazing? The demons believe and tremble. They fear him. They know Him much better than most people. If we could just get people to see that Jesus is the Son of the Most High God. In fact, Jas pointed out that this is the fulfillment of Gabriel's' message to Mary at Jesus' birth which said He would be called "the Son of the Highest."

How is it that Satan is so good at deceiving people to think that Jesus is just a teacher or a prophet, when He knows just who He is? He knows that if people ever saw the Truth, they would turn to Him as Lord. However, the demons have rejected Him once and for all, so they know His power and their doom. We need to make sure that we bear as good a witness to Jesus as the demons do.

Then, there is the final part of the verse which says, "I beg You, do not torment me." The demons are afraid of Jesus. Jesus is not intimidated by them at all. We, as believers, should not be afraid of demons if we are walking with Jesus in the power of the Spirit. There is nothing they can do to us. We have the Most High God on our side, and he will fight for us. That should be our testimony, too. We should show people that Jesus is not afraid of Satan at all. There is nothing he can do to defeat Jesus, In fact, Christ died on the cross to seal their doom and our victory in Him. We need to shout that from the housetops. Jesus is Lord!

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 23-25.
