Preparing Our hearts for Worship
When do you start preparing for Sunday worship? This is not just a preacher question. It is vital for all believers to prepare to enter God's presence. This is true each day of our lives, but it is especially true when we gather for corporate worship.
My Cajun friend, Earl Dousay, used to talk about this. He said, "Every church building should have a sign above the entrance that says, Don't bring the Devil in here with you." That is a great possibility if we don't prepare for worship. We can come to worship with dirty hearts and bad attitudes. We can come in our pride, instead of submission to the Lord. All of these things prevent us from really entering the presence of the Lord.
Think about Moses and Isaiah. What happened when they came into God's presence? They knew they were on holy ground. Moses took off his shoes and Isaiah felt unclean. It was not until they were physically and spiritually prepared that God met with them.
There are a lot of believers who don't even think of preparing for worship until they sit in the worship center. It is a little late at that point, most of the time. Satan is able to distract them and draw them away from seeing God clearly. Some begin on Sunday morning before they leave for worship. That is much better. It allows for a clearer focus and even a time of repentance. However, the best time to prepare for worship is the night before. We have time to reflect and to repent of sins. We have time to assess our needs and our blessings. We can truly be ready to meet God. I pray that each of us will begin preparing for worship this evening, so we can have a fantastic encounter with the Living God, Jesus Christ, tomorrow. I pray that we will be so ready that others will see the difference in how we worship and give the glory to God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 11-13.
