Anointed, Consecrated, and Sanctified
I don't know if you caught my memory verse this morning from Exodus 28:41 or not. It was about the instructions for the priests to serve before the Lord on behalf of the people. There are many instructions about clothing and washing, but this one verse is very specific. Moses is to make sure to "anoint them, consecrate them, and sanctify them that they may minister to Me as priests. It is evident that God did not want any priests who did not meet these guidelines.
The thing that struck me as I read this verse this morning was that, as Christians, we are all priests before God. We are here to minister in His name, and through Jesus we can come boldly to His throne to find help in time of need and to intercede for others. However, I had not made the connection with this verse. For any Christian to minister to the Lord as a priest, he or she must be anointed, consecrated, and sanctified. That is a tall order, but it is God's requirement. Therefore, I want all of us to ask ourselves our qualifications as New Testament priests. Are we anointed in the power of the Holy Spirit? Have we totally given ourselves to the Lord in full consecration? Are we set apart for His service alone? If we answer no to any of these questions, we have found the reason for our ineffectiveness in serving before the Lord. We must make sure we take the necessary steps to be anointed, consecrated and sanctified, so we can be His priests in this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 31-33.
