Freedom Through the Truth
"The truth shall make you free."(John8:32) That is a powerful statement for us as finite human beings. Our lives are hindered by many things. Sometimes, we are even in bondage to sins and substances. Jesus gives us the glorious promise of freedom through the truth. How does this work?
First of all, Jesus is the Truth.(John 14:6) When we know Him, we are set free from the ravages of sin. He forgives our sins, and gives us a new life.(John 3) However, that is not all. It is just the beginning. The Word of God is Truth.(John 17:17) As we know the Word of God, we can choose to believe it and apply it to our lives. Then, His Word sets us free from specific sins and bondages. In fact, there are many very specific promises which we must take and apply to see the release that leads to freedom. Finally, the Holy Spirit is Truth.(John 14:17) He is in us, as believers, to lead us into all truth. So if we listen to Him as we live each day, He will lead us to freedom.
Truly, God does not want us to be slaves to sin, but to righteousness. He wants us to be slaves for Him, and He will set us free.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 28-30.
