Eternal Comfort

It seems that a lot of people including Christians need big doses of comfort all of the time. We need comfort from stress and from pain or grieving. Some people seem to live for some type of pleasure that brings them a measure of comfort from the toils of life. However, many of these folks do not experience real comfort, because the real thing is eternal. Yes, that is correct, eternal comfort.

What is the basis for my confident assertion? It is God's Word to us in II Thessalonians 2:16-17. These were my verses for meditation today, as some of you might have noticed this morning. Have you read them and considered their truth? I would highly recommend that you do. These verses assure us that Jesus "has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace." The NKJV says "eternal consolation" which means the same thing. Those who know Christ as Lord have received comfort that lasts forever. Is this just talking about going to Heaven? I don't think it is just Heaven. Eternal life begins when we come to know Him, and He is our Comfort. He sends the "Comforter", the Holy Spirit, to live in us, so that we have constant comfort from knowing Him and having His presence in our lives. What could be better than that?

We still need comfort for the trials and tribulations of life, but we only receive the real thing from Him and what He supplies is eternal comfort. What a wonderful Lord we have!

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 59-61 and II Thessalonians 3.
