"Every" Word from God's Mouth
Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 that we are to live by "every" word that proceeds from the mouth of God. The quotation marks are mine to emphasize the completeness. God gave us His Word, and He means for us to live by all of it. That is not impossible, but it does take a commitment to His Word, and it takes some adjustments in our lives so we have the time to spend in His Word on a daily basis. Is that too much for Him to ask of us? I do not think so.
I once knew a Director of Missions in Texas who took great pains to print a very comprehensive Book of Reports for all of the churches in his association every year. Over the years he became very tired of people asking him questions, instead of looking it up in the book themselves. After a few years of giving out the information orally to answer their inquiries, He started saying one sentence over and over, "It is in the book." I believe that is what Jesus thinks about many Christians. They keep asking Him questions, when they should know His Word, so He is telling us, "It is in the Bible." We need to take His Word and digest it, meditate on it, and live it. It would improve our lives 100%.
