What You Do Next
This morning the men in our Monday Morning Bible Study spent most of our time discussing the shepherds actions in relation to the birth of Jesus in Luke 2. We had a smaller crowd. I guess people were worn out from Easter. However, we had a good study together.
I shared a principle with them that I learned from Henry Blackaby. The shepherds were quick to set out for Bethlehem to see what God had done, after the angel revealed to them that the baby in the manger was the Savior, Christ, the Lord. They did not stop to debate what they should do. They did not doubt the account of the angel. They believed the report. Their actions proved their faith. The principle is this: What a person does next after God reveals Himself to them, shows what that person believes about God. It reveals their faith of lack of faith in God. The shepherds proved to be just the right people to be told of the birth of Christ, because they came with haste. Then, they went everywhere telling what they had seen and heard, glorifying God and giving Him praise.
That is a great testimony for some simple shepherds. It would be a great testimony for any of us. If we would just act on what God shows us and be ready to share what He shows us, the world would be changed. It is not very complicated, and it does not take a rocket scientist to do it. It takes faith in God. I pray we have it. I pray we will do the right thing next time God reveals Himself to us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 25-26 and Luke 12:32-59.
