Pride is a Terrible Attribute
My memory verse today is Luke 14:11. It reminds us of the danger of pride and exalting oneself. God will always bring down the person who exalts himself. In other words, God is against the proud. He will make sure that they are brought low.
The other side of this attribute of pride is humility. Humility is not being incapable, but it is not thinking that you are special because of your capabilities. It is not exalting yourself for what you have done or what you can do.
We live in a world that promotes pride as the best attribute and humility as the worst. That leads us to forsake the way of Jesus who was totally humble in all He did. He even died the most humble death to save us.
If Christians would strive to be capable, humble people who love the Lord Jesus and strive to bring others to Him, we could change the world. However, I am afraid pride has crept into the hearts of Christians and churches, so that we are less than effective in showing the world the difference between believers and non-believers. Pride causes us to not be very much like Jesus at all, so people can't see Jesus in us. It is a sad reality, but I believe it is true.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 3-5 and Luke 14:25-35.
