Complete in Him
I am coming to realize more and more that I have been living under a misconception for a long time. I have believed that a new Christian has to grow in the Lord before he or she is prepared to do great things for the Lord. Now, don't get me wrong, I do believe we begin as babes in Christ, and we need to grow into mature believers. We do need to grow before we come to the fullness of the measure of the stature of Christ. However, that being said, a new Christian can do whatever the Lord wants him or her to do, because the full power of the Lord is there to guide and to provide.
Therefore, I am seeing that we do new Christians a great disservice by not throwing them out as missionaries to their friends and family immediately. They need to trust the Lord to give them what they need, and as they trust Him, they will grow stronger and stronger. If they wait to begin to serve the Lord and to be His witnesses, their growth is stunted. That is why we have so many weak Christians. They have thought that they had to learn more before they could be effective in reaching out to those around them.
Think about the Ethiopian eunuch and the Gadarene demoniac. They were both sent out immediately. Why? Because they were complete in Christ. (Colossians 2:10) They did not need a training course before they could start. They did receive training, and they grew, but it was on the job training. I hope we all will come to see this Biblical truth, because if we don't see ourselves as complete in Christ, we could spend our lives looking for something in the Bible or some other book, and we could miss what the Lord wants to do with us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 6-8 and Acts 6.
