Pressing on to the Goal

Today was the final Good News Club for this school year. The lesson was the last one in a series on the life of Paul. It was a summary of his life ending with his quote from Philippians 3:14. Paul's life was focused on pressing on toward the goal God had set for him and receiving the prize Jesus had for him once he got to heaven. The same should be true for every believer.

Therefore, I would ask each of us a question. "What is God's goal or purpose for your life, and how are you doing at reaching the goal He has set for you?" It is a very important consideration, since Jesus will judge us according to His goal and not our goal for our lives. Many people will not like that time of judgment because they will have to say "I" too much, and there will not be enough to say about "Your will." It could be the saddest day of any believer's life.

If you don't know what God wants you to do with your life, ask Him. Search out His will in His Word. Knock on the doors He puts before you. If you will, He promises that you will find it.(Matthew 7:7-8) God never breaks His promises. Then, once you find your goal or purpose, go after it with all of your being. Of course, God must be first, but when He is first, He will enable you to do His will by His supernatural power.

I am not sure how much the children understood today, but I know God will continue to pursue them. I pray that we all will give in to the Lord, give up our goals, and press on toward His goal for us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 19-21 and John 4:1-30.
