Authority

Everyone has a source of authority for life. Most people go by their own reason or feelings, so they are their own authority. That is a very scary position to take, because Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19-20 that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Him. Therefore, He should be the source of all authority. We learn what He wants us to do from the Bible, because Jesus affirmed the Scriptures as the Word of God. We are to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, according to Jesus. That is why I accept the Bible as my authority for all of life.

The thing that strikes me is that anyone who goes by his own reason and feelings is his own god. He is his own authority. That is even more scary. To think that a human could be God is absurd. God knows all, and He can do anything. We can't even begin to approach the wisdom and power of God. However, our culture and the Devil, himself, come to us and convince us that we are our own authority, and because of pride we listen. Then, we go down the wrong road of life thinking we are justified in choosing, since we are the authority. That is very sad. I would much rather stake my life on the Word of God. There is so much evidence for its authenticity and inspiration.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 11-12 and Luke 6:1-26.
