The Wrong Way
Over the years I have seen a lot of ways that are supposed to help us make the right decisions about things. They are very logical, and they are based on the experiences of the developers. They add up the pros and the cons of doing something, and they have a way of coming to what seems to be the best conclusion. I am afraid all of these ways fall very short because they are all just based on man's knowledge.
The Bible gives us a wonderful truth to ponder in this area. (Proverbs 16:25) The Lord tells us that "there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." There are several ways to understand this truth, but they are all related to the main factors God gives us here. Let's consider these factors and apply the meaning to our own lives.
Just because a way "seems" right to a man or a woman, doesn't mean it is right. We, as humans, have no ability to know exactly what is right and wrong on our own. God is the only One who knows the absolute truth about every situation and what is right or wrong. Therefore, our decisions should never be based on what seems right to us. We should always consult God and His Word until we know for sure what God would have us do.
If we do not depend on God in this way, our way will end in death or destruction. If we apply this to salvation, it means that we can't be saved by going the way that seems right to us. We have to go God's way, and the only way is through trusting the Lord Jesus Christ. Also, if we apply it to other decisions, it means that going our way leads us down the road to broken relationships and destroyed lives. God has shown us the way to live the abundant life. We have to take His narrow way, which not only leads to eternal life, but to the right way to live here in this world, too.
