Not to the Right or the Left

There are all kinds of talk shows on the TV, the radio, and on the Internet. Most of the time they have a slant to them. They slant to the right or to the left. When we talk about being conservative, we speak of being on the "right." The opposite is true, also. The "left" is being liberal. People can get caught up in one or the other, when we need to be concerned about finding and following the truth.

That is basically what God told His people in the days of Moses. (Deuteronomy 28:14) He said that they were not to turn aside from any of the words which He commanded them, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. God's Word and God's way is truth, and we need to stick to His words, instead of being led aside to idols of any kind.

I am not talking about politics here, but I want to make an observation. I know people who are on the "right" who get caught up in the views of a particular group, and instead of following God's directions, they take their directions from a group of people. As Christians, we should not be governed by any group of people, even if they teach some good things. We need to stick to God's words, or we can start following an idol.

The same seems to be true of those who are on the "left." They hear their groups talk a certain way about different issues, and they decide to turn away from what God's Word clearly says and follow the slant of that group. As Christians, we should be known for closely following God and His Word. That will mean we will disagree with both sides at one time or another. We should always keep going straight in God's way.
