Hearing God Speak

God gave us a very precious gift when He gave us the ability to speak and to have conversations with other people. I believe that is one of the ways that we are made in the image of God. God is a very relational God, and relationships are built upon communication. God loves us, and He speaks to us out of His desire to have a relationship with us.

Moses experienced this in a very unique way. (Numbers 7:89) When Moses went into the tabernacle of meeting to speak with God, he heard the voice of God speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the Testimony, from between the two cherubim. That is how they conversed with each other. Now, we need to know how God speaks to us today.

We know that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. (John 16:8-11) He convicts us by what we see and read, but many times He speaks to us before we sin to warn us about what we are tempted to do. I am sure we have all heard that voice, whether we heeded Him or not. Also, God speaks to draw us to salvation. He lets us know very clearly that we need to trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Then, once we trust Jesus, God speaks to us more and more. (John 10:27) We are His sheep, and He is our Shepherd. We know His voice and respond, so that we follow Him. That is essential to being a growing Christian. The more we talk with Him, the more we know His voice, and the closer we get to Him. I pray that we will all spend much time each day talking with the Lord. It is a blessing we must not neglect!
