Being Attacked by Unbelievers
Most of us, as Christians, are just trying to lead a quiet and peaceable life. We are not trying to cause problems with the people who live around us. In fact, we want them to like us, so that we can relate to them and share Jesus with them. However, that gets very complicated because those who don't know Christ engage in activities which we can't condone. Then, they get mad at us for not going along with their way of doing things.
This happened to Lot in Sodom when the angels came to check out the wickedness in the city, and the men of Sodom wanted to have sexual relations with them. Lot stood up to them. (Genesis 19:9) They told Lot to stand back. Then, they said that he was acting as a judge against them, and they threatened to deal with him worse than what they were going to do to the angels. They almost broke down the door to Lot's house before they were stopped.
We see a couple of things here that are similar to what we, as Christians, face today. Just because we don't agree with others about their sexual practices and other things that we consider immoral, they say that we are acting as judges. Most of the time that is not the case. They just feel guilty in their conscience, and they blame their shame on us. They feel like if we went along with them everything would be fine.
However, God is the Judge, not us. They will have to deal with Him in the end. Therefore, they need to listen to the Lord as He speaks to them. Also, they need to see the sinfulness in their hearts that they think the solution to their guilt is to attack us and our families, just because we disagree. That should be obviously wrong, but to them it is justified by their anger. We need to be aware of these things and protect ourselves and our family from their attacks while still loving them and praying for them.
