Confession and Faith
Sometimes when we combine two elements, we get a very powerful result. I have used epoxy glue for different projects. It comes with two tubes. When the two substances are mixed together a very strong boding agent is made. I have also seen the result of pouring gasoline on some wood, and then being careful to put a little flame to it. Immediately a fire was started. In each case it takes both elements to produce the results.
God inspired Paul to tell us the most powerful combination for us as sinful humans. (Romans 10:9) He declared that if we confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved from our sins. Every one of us needs salvation, and it only comes if we put these two things together.
Confession is when we say something to let everyone else know what has happened to us. In the Bible language it means to "say the same thing as." So, when we confess with our mouth that we are accepting Jesus as Lord of our life, we have the first element of salvation. Since Jesus is Lord of all, we have to understand that and confess that to others.
Also, we have to believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead. That kind of belief means to place our faith in Jesus as the One who was raised from the dead to show God, the Father, approved His sacrifice for our sins, and to show us that He was who He said He was. When we do these two things together, we are saved from the penalty of our sins.
