Search Me for Any Hurtful way

I don't know about you, but I don't want to do anything to hurt another person. Yes, I know that sometimes I do end up hurting someone when I have to do what God's Word says, and they do not like it. That is not what I am talking about here, though. I mean that I don't ever want to harm anyone else by a hurtful thing I say or do. I think that is how God wants all of us to feel.

David sure felt that way. (Psalm 139:23-24) He asked God to search him and to know his heart; to put him to the test and to know his anxious thoughts. David asked God to see if there was any hurtful way in him and to lead him in the everlasting way. I believe that prayer would benefit all of us, as Christians.

Sometimes we do not know our own heart. We hurt other people, and we can't see that what we did came out of our own heart. We think that we were just guided by circumstances, and we did the best we could in that situation. That is not the case. Everything we say and do starts out in our heart, so we need God to show us our heart. We need for Him to see our anxious thoughts and give us peace.

We need for Him to find any hurtful way in us and convict us of it, so we can repent of it and change our heart. Then, we need the Lord's direction in the everlasting way. That is His way to help others, instead of being hurtful to others. God's way brings us closer to others and to Him. It is much better than living with those hurtful things in us and being anxious. It is much better to help people heal than to hurt people.
