Loving Our Great and Awesome God

Do we really love God and keep His commandments the way we should? I am afraid that most of us fall short in both of those things on a daily basis. The reason that we fall short could be that we really don't have a close personal relationship with God. Yes, we have trusted Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Our sins are forgiven, but we are not walking closely with Him every day.

Nehemiah had a very close relationship with God. We can see from His prayers that He knew the Lord well. (Nehemiah 1:5) He said, "Please, Lord God of heaven, great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and faithfulness for those who love Him and keep His commandments..." Let's consider what we can learn from how Nehemiah prayed.

We should ask the Lord, the king of the universe to "please" consider what we are asking Him to do. We will only have a close relationship with God when we acknowledge Him as the Lord of all, when we are submissive to His will. We must be grateful to Him for forgiving our sins and for guiding us each day. We must look to Him as our great and awesome heavenly Father.

Then, when we do love Him and keep His commandments, not out of duty, but out of love, we will see His blessings more and more. I don't mean material blessings, so much. I mean that we will see God's faithfulness to us in every area of our lives, because He draws close to us when we love Him back and we are obedient children. Then His faithfulness, will lead us to love Him even more.
