Active Worship

We are able to worship the Lord in many ways. We sing His praises using our voices. We serve Him as an act of worship, showing Him and everyone around us how worthy He is. Sometimes, we simply sit in silence before Him and know that He is God. I believe it is important for us to worship the Lord in more than one way based on what we need to express to Him at that moment.

When there was a great revival of the Word of God in Nehemiah's time, there were wonderful times of worship. (Nehemiah 8:6) Ezra stood before the people and blessed the Lord, the great God. The people answered, "Amen, Amen" with the raising of their hands . Then, they kneeled down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. Now, I would say that was active worship, wouldn't you?

There are times we need to "bless the Lord." We need to proclaim His perfections and His power by our words and expression. We must not fail to loudly praise Him, because He is worthy, and everyone needs to know. Then, when we hear someone express the greatness of God, we need to say "Amen" or "Praise the Lord" or something to show our agreement.

When we raise our hands to the Lord in worship, it helps us focus our attention on Him and to show others that we are pouring out our heart to the Lord in worship. We can also raise our hands in surrender to the Lord. At other times, we need to kneel down before Him in submission, even getting as low before Him as we can by putting our faces to the ground. After all, He is Everything, and we are nothing without Him.
