The Results of Being Afraid
Satan is very smart. He knows that he can use fear to get us to sin. Fear is one of his main weapons, so we must watch out for it all of the time. We must remember that God has not given us a spirit of fear. Therefore, if we are afraid that fear doesn't come from God. It comes from Satan, and we must allow the Spirit to give us God's peace and the power to do the right thing, not fall into sin.
Nehemiah's enemies tried to use fear to stop the work on the wall. (Nehemiah 6:13) They hired a man to get him to go into the temple for his personal safety, because he told Nehemiah his enemies were going to kill him. That is the wrong reason to go to the temple, so it would be a sin. Then, they could spread that bad report about Nehemiah to taunt him and discredit him. He did not fall for it and neither should we.
Fear is the opposite of faith. If we have fear, it shows us that our faith is weak or non-existent. We must trust the Lord and His Word, knowing that He loves us and He will not leave us or forsake us. Then, we must do the right thing without letting fear harm us.
If we are afraid of people rejecting us, we will not do God's will. If we are in fear for our life, we will sometimes fail to do God's will and be a good witness for Him. Any time we fall into sin, we are not a good ambassador for Christ, so we must not let fear have its way in our life.
