Cleansed and Free
Leprosy is a terrible condition of the skin. It is so bad that people with this condition are separated from their families and others, so it will not spread to them. In Bible times lepers were sent out of the city to live on their own. Then, they slowly died alone from the effects of the leprosy.
It was a great day when a person was healed from leprosy. He or she went to the priest to be pronounced clean. (Leviticus 14:7) Then, the priest would sprinkle the blood of a dove on the one cleansed from leprosy and pronounce him clean. Also, he would let a live bird go free over the open field. What a beautiful picture for us!
Leprosy is like sin. It spreads through our lives. It separates us from God and from others. The eventual outcome is that we die from our sins. It is worse than physical death. It is spiritual death, so we are separated from God and others in torment forever. All of us need to be cleansed from our sins.
Our cleansing comes by trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. When we do that His blood, which He shed for us, is applied to our sins, and they are washed away. We are clean, and we are free to live the abundant life God has designed for us. We can draw near to God and to others, as we live out that freedom forever.
