Blessed by a Godly Grandmother
The Lord has a way of helping us grow in wisdom as we abide in His Word and stay close to Him. Then, we are to take that wisdom and bestow it on our family and others, so we can be a blessing to them. That is why I pray for my children and grandchildren every morning. I want them to be blessed by the Lord. Chris and I were blessed by her godly grandmother when we were first married, too.
It could be that Grandma Hallie Bennett gained some wisdom from this verse. (Deuteronomy 24:5) It was God's command to the people of Israel that any man who takes a new wife was not to go out to war, nor be assigned any duty. He was to be free to stay at home for one year and to make his wife happy. Grandma Hallie gave us $1,000 on the condition that Chris would not work for one year. It was such a blessing.
It is so important for a newly married couple to bond together when they are first married. When both of them are working, they do not have time to talk together and spend quality time together. This tends to cause them to drift apart. Then, they get stressed and argue. It is a recipe for disaster.
Instead, the new couple needs to concentrate on each other before they have children and begin having to exert a lot of time and energy on raising them. This will enable them to work through any differences by praying and communicating together as God intends. Chris and I were very blessed to have that year together as I was going to Baylor. And yes, we did have some of the $1,000 left at the end of the year, too.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 25-28.
