The Lord Being With You
There is nothing more comforting or significant to us than to be assured that the Lord is with us. His presence makes all the difference in the world. He is there to guide us and to chasten us when we get out of line. He is there to give us strength and console us when we encounter problems of any kind. I pray that all of us have this constant assurance.
Joseph certainly could tell that the Lord was with him. He was hated by his brothers, sold into slavery, accused of rape by his master's wife, and thrown into prison. However, the Lord's presence was evident everywhere He found himself. (Genesis 39:23) Even in prison the warden put all the prisoners under Joseph's authority, because he saw God's presence was with him. He did not supervise anything under Joseph's authority, because the Lord was with him, and the Lord made whatever he did prosper.
God is with us when we have a personal relationship with Him that is real and personal. We must have much more than religion. We know Him and He knows us, because we trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior, so we submit to all He tells us to do in His Word and as we pray. When He sees that faith, He leads us to do what we do well.
Joseph never stopped trusting the Lord, even in all of his trials. That is how we must be. We must not stop following the Lord and go our own way. We must stay close to Him in prayer and in reading His Word, so that He is able to speak to us and to show us all that we need to know and do. Then, we have that assurance that the Lord is with us.
