Refusing to Repent

I believe there are many reasons why people do not put their trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Some people do not believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, even though there is much evidence that it is. Others would rather not trust in anyone but themselves. However, I believe the main reason for not trusting Christ is that people do not want to repent of their sins and turn to Him and His way.

John told us about this condition during the time of the Great Tribulation when there will be many plagues that kill multitudes of people. (Revelation 9:20) He said that the people who are not killed by those plagues will still refuse to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. In fact, they will continue to worship demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood - idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk. See what I mean?

People are inherently proud. We think we know what is best because of our intelligence. We refuse to submit to the fact that God is far wiser than we are. He made everything, and He knows everything. However, many people will not give up their pride and listen to His way, instead of their own way. That causes them to miss heaven.

Other people simply think that living their way is better than God's way. The temporary pleasures they get from sin get them hooked, and they want more and more. They are convinced that is the repented of their sins and turned to God that their lives would be boring and unfulfilling. Of course, nothing could be farther from the truth. God's peace and joy are better than anything this world can give us.
