Keeping Your Clothes Ready
Most of us like to have the right clothes to fit the occasion. It is very embarrassing to be under dressed for a special event. It is even more embarrassing to be caught without any clothes on at all. That is why we have all sorts of clothes, and we try to never be caught without the right ones.
John shares an admonition from the Lord Himself that uses the clothing analogy . (Revelation 16:15) Jesus is telling us, "Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Blessed are all who are watching for Me, who keep their clothing read so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed." This is for all of us to contemplate.
Jesus is coming very unexpectedly. He could come before I finish writing this post. He wants us to keep that in mind and to be watching for Him, expecting His return. In order to be ready, we have to be properly clothes to meet the Lord. The only clothing that will do is to be clothed in His righteousness, which we get when we trust Him as Lord and Savior. The white robes of the saints represent that righteousness.
Also, we want our robes to be clean, free from unconfessed sin all of the time in case He returns. We want to be able to stand before Him knowing we have done our best to be holy, as He commanded us. All of the rest, who do not know Jesus will be found naked and ashamed. They will only have their own righteousness, which is like filthy rags to the Lord, and they will be ashamed that they did not turn to the Lord.
