Come Away from Her, My People
As parents, most of us teach our children to be very careful about choosing their friends. We know if they hang around the wrong people, they will probably get in trouble doing things they would not otherwise do. This same principle applies to us as adults. We must watch out what and who we allow to influence us, or we could really get in trouble.
God showed John the fall of the One World Government which He called Babylon during the time of the Great Tribulation. (Revelation 18:2,4) An angel gave a mighty shout: "Babylon is fallen - that great city is fallen. She has become a home for demons. She is a hideout for every foul spirit, a hideout for every foul vulture and every foul and dreadful animal."... Then, John heard another voice calling from heaven, "Come away from her, My people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her." We must watch out for this now, too.
As Christians, Jesus said that we live in this world, but we are not to be "of the world." Yes, we are to be light, salt, and leaven for this world. We can do these things without getting entangled in the affairs of this world system. We must be sure we do not adopt the materialistic mindset, so that we trust in wealth and possessions. This will lead us to compromise in our relationship with the Lord.
Also, if we get too close to the things of this world, we will encounter those demons and foul spirits that fill our fallen world. If we allow these influences into our lives, we will enter into the same sins as the people of this world, and God will punish us with them. We will not be exempt from His wrath because we are His people. In fact, we may be punished more, since we have the Spirit, so we know better than to do those things the world does.
