Undeserved Grace
We have to work for a lot of what we get in life. We work at learning when we go to school, so we can earn good grades. We work at our profession, so we can earn a good wage. However, there are some things that we get, even though we do not deserve them. Salvation is the most important thing that we get that we don't deserve.
There was a discussion about salvation in Jerusalem among the church leaders, because some people were teaching that people had to do things to earn salvation. (Acts 15:11) Their conclusion was that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus. It has always been that way, and it will always be that way.
Some people think that people in the Old Testament times were saved by doing the law of God. That was never the case. The law was to instruct them on how to live in God's will and to show them that they had sinned. Then, they were saved from their sins by putting their faith in God and receiving salvation as an undeserved grace gift.
Today, we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, because He is the full manifestation of God for all mankind. He came to show us the Father, and He came to die as the sacrifice for our sins. We could never forgive our own sins, so Christ paid for them. When we realize that and trust Him to forgive us, we are saved by His undeserved grace.
