Our Mighty God

 It is very important for us to have the correct understanding of God. Many people make up their own view of God. It is incomplete or wrong, so they are not really able to worship and serve the One True God the way they should. This hinders our prayers, and causes all kinds of other problems. Therefore, we need to make sure we have this right.

King Hezekiah knew the One True God, and we see it as He began his prayer. (Isaiah 37:16) He addressed God well by affirming, "O Lord of Heaven's Armies, God of Israel. You are enthroned between the mighty cherubim. You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth.(Isaiah 37:16) Hezekiah's faith to pray a great prayer came from a right understanding of God.

When we pray, it makes all the difference in the world if we know the power and sovereignty of God. Our God is the Lord of Heaven's Armies. He created the angels and empowered them to be able to do His bidding. He is the God of Israel, the One who made the eternal covenant with Abraham. He sits on His throne as Sovereign over the universe He created and all the kingdoms of this world. When we know this, we know we can be confident that God can answer any of our prayers.

Also, now we know that God loved us so much that He sent His Only-Begotten Son into the world to be our Lord and Savior. He shed His blood and rose again to institute the New Covenant of salvation by grace through faith in Him. Now, we can be sure He knows what we are going through, and He is praying for us, as His children. That greatly helps us to have faith and pray well when we know that, too.
