Honest and Trustworthy

Character matters. Our character is what we do on a consistent basis. It is who we are as a person. To have good character is to do the right thing, even when no one sees what we are doing, or even when no one will ever know what we have done. God wants us to let Him grow our character until we are like Jesus.

King Joash of Judah collected money to do much needed repairs on the temple. (II Kings 12:15) No one required an accounting of this money which was given to the construction supervisors, because they were honest and trustworthy men. This is an example of men who had very good character in these two areas.

Honesty is of vital importance. Others need to know that we will always give them the right facts. People need to know that we will give them all of the truth about whatever they ask of us. When we are not honest, people will not want to deal with us, because they won't know if they can trust what we say or do. This breaks relationships, and relationships matter, too.

Being trustworthy means just what it says. We should always be worthy of being trusted. People need to know that we will always do what we say and keep our promises. They need to be assured that we will never deceive them in any way. Then, others will confide in us, and we will be able to have strong relationships with them.
