Total Commitment
It is more and more rare to see people who make a total commitment to anything. It is a part of our lack of self-control and determination. However, I feel it is strange that we do sometimes see people who make a very strong commitment to things that are opposite of what God's Word says, instead of those who follow God's Word. We need a revival of total commitment to God's values and principles.
Ruth made a total commitment to her mother-in-law, Naomi. The statement she made to Naomi was sincere and she kept it the rest of her life. (Ruth 1:16-17) She asked that Naomi never ask her to leave her or to turn back to her homeland, because she was determined to go where she went, to live where she lived. Naomi's people would be her people and her God would be her God. She would die and be buried in the same place as Naomi. She even asked God to punish her severely if she allowed anything to separate them. Now, that is total commitment.
Today, we need to see this level of commitment to marriage and to our families. Wouldn't it be great, if you couldn't get a wife to leave her husband or vis versa? I know there are cases of abuse and unfaithfulness that make separation necessary, but there should still be the commitment to rebuild the relationship if at all possible, because that is God's design and He will help us if we have that kind of determination.
Finally, we need that commitment to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Nothing should be able to separate us from our love for Him and our commitment to serve Him. If we have that type of commitment, we will read our Bibles and pray as we should. We will worship and serve others like we should. Our lives will be far better than if we have a lukewarm faith in Jesus.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ruth 2-4.
