Are We Listening?

God is talking to us all the time. He is revealing Himself to those who don't know Him in very personal ways. Of course, He is speaking to His own since He longs to have a close relationship with all of us. The real question is, "Are we listening?" God can speak all He wants, but if we are not listening, it is all in vain.

Samuel was hearing from God. He didn't realize it at first. However, the wise old priest, Eli, told him what to say the next time God spoke to him. (I Samuel 3:10) The Lord came and called as before, "Samuel, Samuel." And Samuel replied, "Speak, for your servant hears." There is a lesson here for all of us.

God knows each of us well. He calls us by name, like He did Samuel. Our name is the one word that gets our attention every time we hear it spoken, When He speaks, He has something for us to know or to do. That is why we need to have the heart of a servant. We need to be ready to do whatever He says, and He will gladly speak to us often.

Let's just get that picture in our heads. The Master is coming to us with a personal message. We are the servants. When we hear Him call our name, we jump to do what He says. We are glad to do it, for we know how much He loves us and wants what is best for us. When we listen like that, we will hear from God often, and we will stay in the center of His will. That is the best place in the world to be.
