Why All This Trouble?

We all get tired from time to time because of having trouble. It seems that life is just one problem after another sometimes. It can wear us down. It can even make us get upset with God for allowing all of those trials. We can really be mad if we feel like the troubles were sent by God Himself to afflict His own people. That seems very unloving and unfair to us. That is what happened to Moses when he got back to Egypt to deliver the Hebrews from the bondage of slavery to Pharaoh. He asked Pharaoh to let them go for a time in the wilderness just like God instructed him to do. That made Pharaoh angry, and he called the Hebrews lazy and added extra work to their labor. The people were overwhelmed. (Exodus 5:22) Then, Moses went back to God in prayer. He protested saying, "Why have you brought all this trouble on Your own people? Why did you send me?" I think we have all felt like Moses at times, but there are a few things we need to learn from this.

God never promises us that our lives will be easy in this sinful world. He never promises to work miracles every time we need something too difficult for us. If we never had trouble, we would get complacent and stop praying and depending on Him the way we should. That is the last thing God wants to happen. He wants a close personal relationship with us, so He desires for us to talk with Him all the time about everything. Also, our trials make us stronger spiritually, when we trust Him more and more, just like James 1 tells us. However, the big reason God sends trouble now and why He sent it in Moses's time, is that He is working a plan, His perfect plan. God uses troubles to set people up, so they are in position to carry out His plan. Pharaoh getting angry and defying God played into God's hands later on. Yes, the people had to suffer more, but that made them more ready to leave Egypt, instead of being comfortable there, as they tended to be. The troubles in our lives are there, because God is working His plan in us, through us, and for us to have His best for us at the right time. We need to trust Him in that, so we don't get angry or doubt our calling. Let's just persevere in the Lord no matter what troubles we encounter on the way to heaven.
