The Tricker Gets Tricked

God is just. He makes sure that we can never sin without receiving the consequences for our actions. He is very good at this, too. He wants to teach us lessons so we won't commit those sins again. Sometimes, we think that we can keep our sin hidden, so that no one knows about it. God promises that He will bring our sins to light in His way and in His time. Therefore, we should never try to cover up our sins. We should confess them and repent of them, so that we do not do them again. God knows that is what is best for us. We see this in Jacob's life when he left Canaan to go to his father's family in Padanaram. He lived with Laban and worked for him for seven years so he could marry Rachel, Laban's younger daughter. However, Laban tricked Jacob and substituted his older daughter, Leah, in the dark of night. (Genesis 29:25) When Jacob woke up in the morning - it was Leah. He raged at Laban in anger saying, "What have you done to me? I worked seven years for Rachel. Why have you tricked me?" We can see that the tricker got tricked, and we can learn from this.

We can get angry with others, but we better watch out. We might have done the same thing, except in another way. When we get angry with them, we are really pointing a guilty finger at ourselves. We should not be judgmental because we have all committed the same sins in different ways. God wants us to stop and realize our own sin when others sin against us. That is what Jacob did. We have no accounts of him tricking anyone after he left his family in Canaan. However, He had tricked his brother and his father out of the birthright and the blessing. He should not have become so angry with Laban. He was just getting a dose of his own medicine. I pray this will help us see that we need to be very sensitive to our own sins, and we are too hard on others. We should always be harder on ourselves than on anyone else.
