Priorities
What should we have as priorities in our lives? That is a huge question for all of us to answer. In fact, we do answer it every day by our actions and how we spend our time. The problem is that we often decide without giving it much thought and prayer. The issue is much too important to allow that to happen. Instead, we need to seriously consider the ultimate realities of life and decide where to keep our focus for our good and the good of our families. That is what Peter challenged us all to do. (II Peter 3:11) He told us that since everything in this world will be dissolved one day, it is clear what sort of people we should be, having holy conduct and godliness as our priorities. See what I mean. God's Word really makes a great point.
One day the earth will be burned up. All of the materials things of life will be useless. Either the end of time will come, and God will start over with a new heaven and a new earth, or we will stand before the Lord having been raptured or having died. Either way, we will take none of the material things of this life with us, and nothing that we leave behind will last forever. Therefore, the only worthy priority for our life is to live in holy conduct and godliness. Those two things will last because they will not be burned up at the time of Judgment. However, all of the time and energy we spent on material possessions, sports, recreation, and other earthly endeavors will be burned up. (I Corinthians 3:12-15) We will not lose anything done to live and love like Jesus, so that we did what He would do, and we loved others like He would. Those are things with eternal value, so they should be our priorities here every day until we meet the Lord. I pray we will all take time to reason this out with the Lord and decide to live a life that has impact for eternity.
