Buy Gold, White Clothes, and Ointment
It is amazing to stop and consider all of the presents that being are bought this Christmas season. Every kind of expensive electronics, nice clothes, and personal care items. We give and receive gifts at Christmas, since God gave us the greatest gift in sending Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. However, are we really thinking about Jesus, or are we just buying stuff that won't last? Do we think that since we have plenty of money, we are able to take care of ourselves and give a lot of costly gifts? If that is how we are thinking, we need to hear what Jesus told John to tell the Laodicean believers and us. (Revelation 3:17-18) Jesus has heard us saying, "We're rich. We have become wealthy and need nothing." But we did not realize that spiritually we were wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. So Jesus advised us all to buy from Him gold refined in the fire so we would be rich, white clothes so we would be dressed and not have our shameful nakedness exposed, and ointment to put on our eyes so we may see. That is a great admonition for us this Christmas, no matter who we are.
All of us are spiritually destitute without knowing Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We may think we are doing pretty well. We have enough money. We have nice clothes and our health is good. However, all of that can come crashing down at any moment. We need to invest in the things that last for eternity and bear spiritual fruit in our lives to make us more like Jesus. The only way to be rich for eternity is to lay up treasures in heaven by doing the things that bear eternal fruit and earn us rewards in heaven from the Lord. These things are when we impact the lives of others to come to know Jesus, and help others grow in the Lord one way or another. Those things last. Also, the only clothes of worth are the white clothes of living a holy life before the Lord. When we put on holiness, He so pleased and blesses us well. Finally, we need the eye ointment of the Spirit, so we can see things as God sees them. This enables us to reject the evil and do His will, which enriches our lives abundantly. Therefore, I would urge all of us to focus and these things this Christmas, no matter what other gifts we give or receive.
