Sin Makes Us Stupid

I think we have all done things that we have regretted. Then, when we look back on those things, we wonder how we ever thought we should have taken that course of action. We had a lapse of common sense. We failed to consider the consequences of our actions before we forged ahead. Then, we did it again, and we kicked ourselves for being so stupid. Yes, I know some people don't like to use that word, but it is a reality. Even Solomon wrote about stupidity for us and showed us the source. (Ecclesiastes 7:25) He set out to turn his thoughts to know, explore, and examine wisdom, as well as, to seek an explanation for things. He sought to fully understand and to know that wickedness is stupidity and folly is madness. I wonder how many of us have come to understand those things?

Wickedness is stupidity. Going against God is not smart, any way we look at it. When we reject Him and His ways, we become stupid, and we do things that are stupid. Then, we have to pay the price. Much the same is true of folly. It is madness. When we think and act, as if there is no God, we are being crazy. There is so much evidence for the existence of God, and we see His power and wisdom all around us in creation and in our hearts. It is madness to reject those things and to go our own way, thinking we are more wise than God, Who made us. All of that is why we need to do what Solomon did. He set out to know the wisdom of God and an explanation of things from the Lord, so He would stay away from wickedness and folly. I think he did this after sin had made him stupid and he had gone crazy with folly, but he decided to turn back to the Lord. That is what we all need to do, if we get away from Him.
