Concealing Sins
Most of us are ashamed of our sins. The Holy Spirit makes sure we know when we have sinned, and the seriousness of our sins. However, we can get very hard hearted. When we have hard hearts, it is much more difficult for us to hear from the Holy Spirit. We can actually sin and not be ashamed, until the Lord really does something drastic to get our attention. Our natural tendency is to try to keep our sins secret. We justify our sins, and we rationalize that if we keep them secret, everything will be OK. No one will know, we think. We think there will be no bad consequences. However, this assumption is terribly wrong. God knows our sins, and when we conceal them, we will not prosper. (Proverbs 28:13) It is only when we confess our sins and renounce them that we find mercy from the Lord. This is a difficult step to take, but it is very worthwhile for us.
God can't forgive our sins unless we admit our sins. He hates sin, and He wants to see that we hate it like He does. That is why we have to confess our sins. That means we say what God would say about them. We must sincerely realize in our hearts how serious our sins are, and we must show God that we are renouncing those sins. Only then will God look on us with mercy to cleanse us from these sins and set us on the right track. Of course, this is only true for those who have turned from their sins in repentance, trusting Christ as Savior, and surrendered to Him, as Lord. Then, once we have been forgiven by the blood of Jesus, we are to live as He would. When we fail to do His will, that is when we must confess our sins and renounce them, instead of trying to conceal them, which is impossible. Therefore, let's decide to confess our sins and renounce them, as soon as the Spirit convicts us of them, so we will not be hindered in our relationship with the Lord, and we can live well for Him.
