Growing in Our Deeds
God is taking account of all of the deeds we do. The deeds that count are the ones He has prepared for us to do. We do not get to pick and choose what we will do to serve the Lord. He saved us, and He has gifted us by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, He knows all about us, so He planned out all that we should do after we get saved. The key that He is looking for is for us to grow in doing those deeds so we do more the longer we are saved. That was true of the believers in Thyatira, (Revelation 2:19) God knew their deeds and their love, faith, service, and perseverance. He also saw from His tabulation that their deeds of late were more than the deeds at first. This is a great example for all of us.
Some people just try to do enough to get by. This is even true of Christians. When we live that way, we can't please the Lord. God is pleased when we trust Him and do what He has for us to do. Therefore, the more faith we have, the more we will do His will. (Ephesians 2:10) We will accomplish the deeds He has prepared for us. In the process God will see our love, our faith, our service, and our perseverance. These will grow, too, because that is what happens when we are faithful to do God's will for us. Each deed is an act of faith. God uses each deed to minister to others, and to help us grow stronger in Him. Therefore, if our deeds are increasing over time, we will be growing into stronger more mature Christians. That will lead us to have the abundant life in Christ.
