An Open Door
God is gracious to give us, as believers and as churches, open doors for ministry. He does this based on our faithfulness to Him and our spiritual strength. Sometimes, we make a huge mistake and try to produce the open doors by our own efforts. That will always fail. What we need to do is to be faithful to the Lord and obey whatever He shows us to do. That is hard, because we do not want to wait upon the Lord. We get impatient, and we want our way in our time. Instead, we need to learn from the church at Philadelphia. (Revelation 3:8) God knew their deeds, so He put an open door before them. This ministry opportunity was based on the fact that they had a little power, they had kept His Word, and they had not denied His Name during their persecution. I pray God will see the same things in us, and give us an open door, too.
It doesn't take a huge amount of power to be used by God. All He needs is for us to have a little power in us because we are trusting Him and allowing the Spirit to empower us. Then, if we will hold fast to His Word, the Bible, He can know we will remain steadfast in Him, not getting into errors of doctrine or practice. Also, if we stay faithful to His Name, no matter what people say or how they persecute us, then, He knows He can count on us to do His will well. Therefore, let's set our hearts to do these things, so God will put an open door before us, and we can minister for Him and His Kingdom to see others come to Christ and His church built up the way He desires. I pray that this will be a goal for all of us who know Jesus as we prepare for a new year soon.
